Started with Piano-and still playing it.
Got my first six-string when I was about 15.Thought it was way cooler than any other instrument-specially when you are that age and on a mission to impress the other half of mankind-a very dangerous age!
My dad was very much into Big Band Sound -so in a very early age I got in contact with musicians such as
Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton or Count Basie. Exploring music ,I pretty soon found music to fit my needs even better:
Bands as Deep Purple, Retourn to forever, Weather Report,Miles Davis, the Prince of Cool-still one of my favourites- and their brilliant axeman-John Mclaughlin, Mike Stern,Ritchie Blackmore- in his time ahead of everybody-,Al di Meola. Stanley Clarke-"School Days" went on heavy rotation, very, very heavy rotation in summer holidays one year. Jaco Pastorius-still the king,Allan Holdsworth-a genius of his own kind-not to be followed by any human being.
So different they all were, they had one thing in common:
They were serious about what they were doing and they all could play. But then something changed everything:
I heard the man play "A star spangled banner". This meant something, obviously. An aspect of music, so far I had only experienced when listening -for example- to Debussy's"la mere" or Holst's "planets".
I saw pictures....
